Immediately
behind the Palm Court is an entrance to the famous tunnel beaches, travel through
a tunnel cut by hand by Welsh miners in the last century. The Tunnel beaches
are renowned for safe bathing and enjoy a natural sun-trap. North boasts some
of the best beaches in the country, with the blue flag Woolacombe beach only
a short drive away.
Ilfracombe
and the North Devon Coast is renowned for the unique character and spectacular
scenic beauty. The coastline offers dramatic headlands Pebble and sandy beaches
accessible by numerous coastal paths, many of which are preserved by the National
Trust.
Ilfracombe
boasts the 2nd highest tidal rise and fall in the world reaching over 10 metres
during September, October and November which can be quite a spectacular sight
to see. It is recommended that you purchase an inexpensive local tide times
booklet offering an explanation of tides and Tide Tables and times of sunrise
and sunset.
